Our mobile broadband service rating for T Mobile: 

In tests T Mobile's service has been consistently the fastest of the UK networks with average speeds reaching 2Mbps in some areas. Uploads speeds were reasonable too, averaging around 300Kbps - similar to the other networks in that respect

T Mobile's software installed quickly and provides a real-time graph that indicates both download and upload speeds. It also gives a visual clue if the connection drops and you need to reconnect. Excess charges can be avoided thanks to a neat sidebar that provides information on your cumulative monthly and yearly download data volume.

T Mobile, like three other of the main mobile broadband providers, uses image compression to speed up webpage loading. If you want to override this compression you have to download and install an additional application called web'n'WalkAccelerator to run alongside the normal software.

We recommend T-Mobile for people who want a fast, reliable and reasonably priced service with the added bonus of inclusive WIFI access.

T-Mobile offer low-cost price plans with superb speeds and coverage and a fair use policy that's really fair: it allows usage from 3GB to 10GB per month, depending on your price plan, but if you exceed your price plan's fair use amount T-Mobile promise not to sneak extra charges onto your bill. There are three types of plan with different levels of committment; 12, 18 or 24 month. T Mobile launches 'Pay per Day' mobile broadband

T-Mobile is now offering mobile broadband with no monthly contract from just £2 per day. The new Mobile Broadband USB Stick 110 costs £49.99, which is in keeping with similar offers from Three and Vodafone. This device can also be used as a memory stick by adding a microSD card (up to 8GB). It costs £2 per day, £10 for 7 days and £20 for 30 days usage. There is of course a 3GB fair use policy, but T-Mobile says it doesn't penalise users who may go over the limit like other mobile broadband providers. The credit for mobile broadband can be topped up directly using the laptop on which its used.

T Mobile offers a network coverage checking tool called 'Street Check'. it generates a visual guide to the strength of 2G and 3G coverage on the basis of a post code or place name. It gives you the opportunity to check three locations - 'Live', 'Work' and 'Play' - with separate viewing tabs for 2G and 3G.

You'll need Windows Vista, XP (Service pack 2), 2000 and Apple Mac OS X 10.2.6 or higher (Apple Mac Leopard is not currently supported) with a Pentium 500MHz or above processor and at least 128MB of RAM plus at least 50MB free disk space.
